1 Sino is an adversative conjunction and requires of a negation in the main clause. Introduce an affirmation after a negation.
No es pequeño sino diminuto.
No fui yo sino él.
When a conjugated verb appears, the conjunction que is necesary too.
No aprobó sino que suspendió.
No fui yo sino que fue él.
It frequently follows the next pattern: no solo / solamente…, sino (que) también / además. . In this case two things are stated in an emphatic way.
No solo bebe sino que además se droga. (= He drinks and takes drugs.)
No solamente está casado, sino que además tienes tres hijos. (= He is married and has three children.)
Also with this pattern two things maybe negated: no solo / solamente no…, sino (que) tan / ni siquiera.
No solo no se droga, sino que tan siquiera bebe. (= He neither drinks nor takes drugs; He is a true saint.)
2 Si no is the addition of the conjunction si and the negation adverb no. Si no appears in conditional negative clauses.
Si no vienes es porque no quieres.
Si no sabes de qué hablas, cállate.
3 Sino formal is a noun and means destino, suerte.
Vagar por el mundo sin encontrar el amor, este es mi sino.
