The passive reflexive clauses are recognized by:
- The active tenses in third person of the singular or plural.
- The verbal forms preceded by se, sign of passive voice.
- The subject that, always referring to indeterminated thing or person, undergoes the action of the verb.
- The agent (preceded by por) sometimes appears.
Its meaning is passive and is equivalent to passive clauses.
Se levantó un muro. (= Un muro fue levantado.)
Se aplastó la rebelión. (= La rebelión fue aplastada.)
Se comenta que subirán los impuestos. (= Esto es comentado.)
This pattern is used in many signs and bills.
Se prohíbe pisar la hierba.
Se vende piso.
Se venden cachorros de pastor alemán.
Se alquila casa.
Se alquilan bicicletas.
Se admiten huéspedes.
In formal texts is used to adress the reader from chapter to chapter.
